When I heard Topps was inserting rookie redemptions into 2008 Topps Series 2 Baseball I was a little concerned. I figured they were going to be an annoyingly difficult and time-consuming addition to the base set much like the basketball and hockey redemptions were some years ago.
However it looks like there might not be so much need for concern if the first redemption is any indication. The first Topps Red Hot Rookie has been announced as being the Reds' Jay Bruce. Not only that, but it's autographed on-card to boot.
In the announcement Topps also indicated that the cards would be done in Topps Chrome Refractor fashion.
Each hobby box includes one of 20 Red Hot Rookie redemptions that can be redeemed online at www.Topps.com/redemption. Redeemed cards will begin to be sent around the time the World Series wraps up (in case you needed a reason to think that redemptions suck).
